Security Officers

Required Qualifications

To be employed as a security officer in the Province of PEI one must obtain a security guard licence that is issued by the Attorney General’s Office. To do so an applicant must meet the qualifications set out in the Security Guard and Private Investigators Act of PEI and complete and submit an application form ( This is an older version. Can you modify it ?) that is sponsored by a licensed provider of security services such as East Coast Security Services. The Act covers requirements such as:

  • No criminal background
  • Minimum age requirement – 18 years of age
  • Must be bondable and capable of being licensed as a Security Officer and/or Private Investigator under PEI Private Investigator and Security Guard Act
  • Combination of a minimum of six months current commercial security and/or policing and/or armed forces experience and/or enrollment in and/or completion of formal or alternative Law and Security training and/or related law enforcement training

Desirable Qualifications

  • Willing to work shift work, weekends & holidays
  • Drivers License and vehicle
  • Valid First Aid and/or CPR
  • Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) Basic 40-hour Guard and /or Supervisory Training
  • WHIMIS training

Flaggers

To work as flaggers, individuals must take and successfully complete the signallers training course provided by Holland College. In addition they must equip themselves with CSA approved safety traffic vest, arm bands, safety boots and hard hat. Rain gear is also strongly recommended. Courses are offered regularly in Charlottetown and Summerside. Check when Holland College Signaller Training courses are offered and whether spaces are available.
